I have hunted since the age of about 10. My hunting career started with my trusty BB gun and my grandpa’s pigeons. Next came my .22 and no squirrel or rabbit on my grandpa’s farm was safe. When I got my 20ga, at about age 12, I began to quail and pheasant hunt. Deer hunting for me did not start until I was about 21. I really enjoyed hunting larger game and have spent many hours in pursuit of Iowa and Missouri whitetail. Pheasant hunting with my Brittany “Jake” is where I spend most of my hunting time now. I also enjoy fox and coyote hunting, as you can tell from the pictures. I have taught both of my sons to hunt and they both enjoy the outdoors.
I now live in the small town of Roland, Iowa. My two boys, Michael and Steven, are both in college. My wife Deb has also gone back to college. My Brittany “Jake” is over 13 years old now and hunts a little slower but, he’s still one heck of a bird dog. I guess I hunt a little slower too. Hunting and shooting have defined my life and given me some of the best memories a father could ever hope for. I will always cherish the time I have spent in the outdoors with my sons.
I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I was to learn that I won your fall antelope hunt. I have never hunted antelope and I’m really looking forward to it. My only big game hunting has been Iowa and Missouri deer. My bucket list of hunting has been to go on an elk hunt, a mule deer hunt, and an antelope hunt. Looks like next fall, the good Lord willing, I will be able to scratch off the antelope hunt. I have learned, as I have gotten older, that is not the taking of the animal that makes the hunt. Rather, it is the enjoyment of the people you hunt with, the outdoors experience, and the memories of the hunt, that truly make hunting enjoyable for me.
Looking forward to meeting you next fall ! Until then, I'll be like a kid on Christmas Eve!
Congratulations again Dan, we can't wait to have you out! Angie & Scott
